Better Man
"Waitin', watchin' the clock
It's four o'clock
It's got to stop
Tell him, take no more
She practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over
Pretends to sleep as he looks her over
She lies and says she's in love with him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Ohh
Talkin' to herself
there's no one else who needs to know
She tells herself, oh
Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to come along
Swears she knew it, now she swears he's gone
She lies and says she's in love with him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
she lies and says she still loves him
Can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Yeah
She loved him, yeah
She don't want to leave this way
She feeds him, yeah
That's why she'll be back again
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man"
This song, "Better Man" by Pearl Jam is one of my favorite songs. It came out on their cd, Vitalogy, in the mid-90's when I was in high school. It's about a woman who settles for a man that doesn't treat her right because she doesn't think she can do any better. I think she dies of misery.
This is my biggest fear in life. To settle for something less than what makes you happy. Why I'm writing this is because I was listening to this song while processing my files from my New Mexico trip and it got me to thinking how much happier I was living in San Francisco than I have ever been at any other time in my life. I think I could find a similar level of happiness in New Mexico. I had that same feeling when I was in Colorado in November. Like I had been to heaven and didn't want to come back down. Life doesn't always hand us a perfect deck of cards, but there's no reason why not to be happy. Some might refer to that as "having your head in the clouds." But dreams do come true eventually if you make them happen. You just have to recognize the opportunities when they present themselves. My point is that you take your chances when the windows are open. You do what you need to do for yourself, not what someone else or society thinks you should. When your windows close they rarely open back.
This picture here of Navajo Rugs is my favorite picture I took in New Mexico. It screams life and passion to me.

I woke up this morning and realized that the lyrics for "Glorified G" - by Pearl Jam were "glorified version of a pellet gun" and not " glorified version of a pelican."
it all makes sense now.
I mess up lyrics all the time. I thought Smells like Teen Spirit was about pest control / agricultural buy spray.
And from the V.S. cd I thought the song "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter" chorus line was "Old time thoughts never fade away." It's actually "hearts and thoughts never fade away."
