Trinidad State Beach
Trinidad State Beach, CaliforniaThis was taken on the last evening of the trip. I didn't really encounter any special lighting conditions during this trip, as it was mostly just harsh light, but it was a relatively productive trip nonetheless. Trinidad is definitely a place that I would like to explore some more as this area has potential for great scenic photos.
Now that I've been to the North Coast, the only other areas that I haven't visited along the California Coast are the Mendocino Coastline and the Crescent City / Smith River area which was just a few miles north of Klamath. Where I would also like to spend some more time photographing is Big Sur and the Sonoma Coast.

This is a great shot Richard!
We were thinking of heading to the coast for a few days, during our upcoming road trip. We decided to wait and do it in October. Better weather is almost guaranteed then.
The Mendocino area is awesome. You don't want to miss a trip up there!
Thanks Sherri. The fog could be kind of cool at this time of year. Doesn't it rain a lot during October?
Yeah I'd like to see the Mendocino Headlands and Bowling Ball beach.
This is my favorite so far from your trip Richard!
Maybe I'm wrong, but I have always associated October with the best weather pretty much anywhere along the California coast.
Ron
Thanks Ron. In San Francisco it is, so perhaps its the same further north.
Def. a great shot! Very nicely done. Ron is mostly right. October is best weather overall, but late spring offers best variety of weather.
Thanks for the tip Gary!
Yes, October is a good time to visit the California Coast pretty much anywhere.
I can remember the night Jeff proposed to me. It was a few miles north of Santa Cruz at Red, White & Blue Beach. It was a very warm October night and we camped on the beach. Geez, that was nearly 28 years ago!
Also, if it's sunny and hot inland, you can usually count on it being foggy on the coast.
That sounds like the "good old days". A romantic setting for sure.
I've been pretty spooked with the whole camping thing since that young couple was found shot to death in their tent in the Jenner area a few years ago.
Beautiful image Richard. I think what appeals most to me is the nice separation of the various rocks. It creates a nice flow for your eye to wander around. Looks like some pretty good light here also!
Thanks Mark. The thing I was most concentrated on was not getting swept away by the tide. As the big seastack behind me was getting blasted with some huge waves.
ha! I don't think there is a nature photographer out there that can't relate to that feeling! :-)
Super composition and the colors are just right.
Thanks Mark and Leann.
